The Peppercorn Kitchen at Perranuthnoe was the venue for March’s Coffee Beans. A cheerful group of members met for coffee and a catch up. If you would like to come along to the next one see Hazel at the Monthly Meeting for details.

Amblers picked a perfect early Spring day for their February walk. Tehidy Woods was looking delightful in the sunshine and provided a great location for a gentle stroll for Jane, Sandra, Kathy, Sylvia and Cynthia with their four legged companion Ruby.

Trevor Smitherham from Hayle Heritage Centre was our speaker for the February Monthly Meeting. Trevor spoke knowledgeably and enthusiastically about Hayle’s Industrial Heritage with a fantastic array of slides and photos from across the years. Camera Club braved the chilly weather last Friday with some mobile phone photography. Newlyn Harbour and Mousehole were the locations, with a multitude of photo options. Tutor Becky and her assistant Karen helped everyone find the right settings and editing functions on their phones and gave useful tips for composition and planning. Everyone agreed that mobile phone cameras have so much more to offer than they thought!

The Murley Hall came alive on Monday with over 50 ladies enjoying each other’s company, delicious food and great entertainment. The hall was laid out with linen bedecked tables, pretty early spring floral arrangements and menus, from which the committee served a fine selection of stews and casseroles to members and guests, followed by an array of delightful desserts, tea, coffee and mints.

With a tricky quiz of 2018, a left / right game that got everyone laughing and songs and tales of life on a cruise ship from Entertainer Stuart Gotch, the evening was filled with fun, food and friendship. The finale of a rousing rendition of Queen’s ‘We Will Rock You’ had members singing along, arms aloft. Many thanks to all those who put in so much effort to start 2019 in such style.

Camera Club had their first meeting of 2019 at Dynamite Quay and Porthkidney Sands. There was plenty to photograph on the beach and along the quayside. Then it was back to Helen’s for tea and cake. Next month’s meeting is a mobile phone photography workshop. There are a few spare places if any member would like to join us. 

Members enjoyed a lovely Christmas Lunch at The Harbour Inn, Porthleven. Best wishes to all for a Happy Christmas and a great New Year.

Elizabeth Harris was the speaker for the November Meeting. She kindly stepped in at the last minute when the advertised speaker was unable to attend. Elizabeth makes curtains and other window dressings, plus accessories just outside Penzance, and brought along a variety of beautiful fabrics and trimmings for members to look at. She explained how the fabric choice, style of window dressing, trims and headings all combine to make a statement to complement a property and it’s location.

Gail, Mary and Lisa joined WI members from all over Cornwall for ‘A Weekend Just for You’ at Treloyan Manor. They all chose the Photography option and spend a great couple of days learning about composition, taking photos and then editing their pictures. The photography teacher was David Chapman, who helped everyone get the most out of the weekend with his advice and tuition  Thanks to CFWI for organising the event. We look forward to another one in the not too distant future!
