January Meeting

January traditionally brings the Feast Meeting for Crowlas and Ludgvan WI. With guests from neighbouring WIs and our advisor Liz Anderson the Murley Hall was packed for a delightful evening of food and friendship. The committee had worked hard to provide a fantastic selection of soups and gateaux, and the evening’s entertainment came from singer Stuart Gotch. With a repertoire including Volare, That’s Life, Spiderman and A Friend Like Me toes were soon tapping and ladies were singing along to their favourite tunes. A fun evening was had by all.

Camera Club

Camera Club met this week for the last time in 2017. They met in Mousehole as the sun was setting and had warming drinks in a cafe whilst waiting for the switch on, then made the most of the clear weather and took photos of the lights around the harbour.

Christmas Dinner 2017

Almost forty members of Crowlas and Ludgvan WI met at The Bay, Penzance for their annual Christmas meal. With a delicious four course meal, great company, crackers, hats and party blowers a fun evening was had by all.  Well done Kathy for organising it all.

Japanese Knot Bag Workshop

Another superb Workshop and many, many thanks to Val for organising it and making it such an interesting, educational event.
Some of the clever girls made beautiful, but complicated Japanese Knot Bags with internal pockets and even round bottoms……. I made a little Christmas Bag and thoroughly enjoyed the whole session and experience.
Another great, creative day, thank you Crowlas and Ludgvan WI. (Sylvia)

Amblers October Outing

We had a gentle amble from the carpark at Godrevy along the path towards the island, and north up the small incline to the barriers. Kathy had suggested we visit the seals. I wasn’t really expecting to see any but what a sight to behold. 100 plus seals and pups lying on the beach below. I have never seen anything like it and would recommend it to everyone. (Gail)

Camera Club October Outing

Three of us met on a blustery afternoon at Jubilee pool; we got poolside passes and wandered around snapping away with the sky turning from grey to blue and the choppy water turning from green to blue. There were a few brave souls swimming -no wetsuits but we were happy to sit out of the wind on various steps and observing. Sue had to nip off to do the school run so Mary and Gail did the WI thing and had coffee and cake at the poolside cafe, it was delicious and very generous portions !
If anyone fancies joining us sometime we are not professionals we do it for fun and as regards to equipment, we had 1 slr camera, 1 iPad and 1 mobile phone between us ! (Gail)

October Walk

It was a misty start for our October walk from Castle Gate which afforded a wonderful view of St Michael’s Mount and Mount’s Bay.
From there we walked inland and around the quarry on wet, muddy bridleways to Castle-an-Dinas (an old iron age hill fort) and Roger’s Tower.  Unfortunately the mist became a little thicker but the views of coast, moorland, remote farms and farmland were still visible.
Our walk was mainly downhill from there to Gulval passing through wooded lanes, fields and farm tracks.
A surprise was  meeting a very friendly farmer whose crop was Christmas trees.  He pointed out the various species of fir trees, growth patterns, age etc.  Another surprise was spotting a little mouse and a fox.
We were all pleased to arrive at the “Coldstreamer” for a rest and drink.  As they say in Cornwall the walk had been quite a “stank”.
