Ever since Crowlas & Ludgvan WI has existed, we’ve awarded our Competitions Cup to the member with the most points in our monthly competition.

We thought it would be fun to share the names of all our winners over the years, many of which will be familiar to you:

The scoring system for our competitions is quite an elaborate one, but Shirley keeps on top of it every month. Something to keep in mind is that you get points just for entering, so do give it a go. Although there won’t be a competition in March at our Annual Meeting, we’ll be starting again in April with some new (and easy!) competition ideas for you!

I’ve set up an Easyfundraising account for Crowlas & Ludgvan WI. This means that when you shop online, you can raise money for our funds!

Whenever you buy anything online – from your weekly shop to your annual holiday – you could be collecting free donations for Crowlas & Ludgvan WI!

There are over 3,000 shops and sites on board ready to make a donation, including Amazon, John Lewis, Sainsbury’s, Tesco, eBay and even your utility companies and insurance providers – it doesn’t cost you a penny extra!

2. Every time you shop online, go to easyfundraising first to find the site you want and start shopping.

3. After you’ve checked out, that retailer will make a donation to Crowlas & Ludgvan WI for no extra cost whatsoever.

I promise you there are no catches or hidden charges. It won’t cost you a penny more and Crowlas & Ludgvan WI will be really grateful for your donations. I signed up on Friday and have already raised £1.39. That may not sound like much, but multiply it by 55 members over the course of a year and you can see how quickly it’ll add up!

All materials will be provided. Please bring a packed lunch and also a sewing machine if you can. Tea, coffee, biscuits and cake will be provided!

Shirley could not have chosen a better day for Crowlas & Ludgvan WI’s first walk of 2017 – it was a lovely clear sunny day.

The walk started with a steep incline from Penlee. The group took their time pausing to admire the view of Mount’s Bay and also to catch their breath.

They made their way to Paul, walking through the village and eventually finding the standing stones named the Ring and Thimble. The return walk took them through fields and down a long descent into Mousehole, providing a very different and lovely view of Mousehole.

In the cafe another walking group from Portreath came in for refreshments and the ladies were surprised to meet up once again with Niamh Noone, a former Crowlas & Ludvan member! Niamh is well and sends her love. What a small world!

Tonight’s Feast meeting was a fabulous event.

Everyone enjoyed a warming meal of hearty stew, followed by delicious fruit crumbles. Perfect for this cold weather!

After supper, we played our usual silly games, this time including a bin bag fashion show. We all got in the spirit and snipped and taped bin bags to create some true couture creations!

Thank you to all of you who brought contributions for our annual donation to the Food Bank. I think we really outdid ourselves this year and I’m sure they’ll be overjoyed to receive it all!

And a special thank you to the hard-working members of the committee who made the evening such a great success.

Crowlas & Ludgvan WI member Ann Tilly would like to let everyone know about a new weekly patchwork and sewing group she’s started!

The group (not a WI group) will meet every Thursday afternoon in the Murley Hall from 2pm until 4pm. All are welcome. Either bring something you’re working on, or just come along and pick up some inspiration from others.

A coach-load of us headed to Falmouth today for our annual Christmas meal out, this time to the gorgeous Greenbank Hotel.

We first had coffee and drinks in the lounge with a nice chance to chat about all our Christmas plans.

The meal was delicious and we all enjoyed the very posh crackers!

Not to mention the stunning views from the dining room.

We’d like to give a big thank you to Kathy for organising the event, and it was such a pity that she was unable to come at the last minute. You were missed, Kathy!

A group of Crowlas & Ludgvan WI members spent today creating beautiful Christmas masterpieces using all sorts of fresh greenery.

Shirley, our floral arts whizz, led the group in the making of stunning Christmas wreaths and displays.

There are going to be some very impressive front doors in Crowlas and Ludgvan this season!
