2019 Feast

The Murley Hall came alive on Monday with over 50 ladies enjoying each other’s company, delicious food and great entertainment. The hall was laid out with linen bedecked tables, pretty early spring floral arrangements and menus, from which the committee served a fine selection of stews and casseroles to members and guests, followed by an array of delightful desserts, tea, coffee and mints.

With a tricky quiz of 2018, a left / right game that got everyone laughing and songs and tales of life on a cruise ship from Entertainer Stuart Gotch, the evening was filled with fun, food and friendship. The finale of a rousing rendition of Queen’s ‘We Will Rock You’ had members singing along, arms aloft. Many thanks to all those who put in so much effort to start 2019 in such style.

January Walk

Our monthly walk was around Loe Pool – a distance of  just over 7 miles.  A good healthy start for 2019!  The weather was dull but mainly dry – just one ill-timed shower which rather spoilt our picnic on the beach.   Most of the walk was through sheltered woodland until we crossed the exposed windy shingle bar which separates the sea from Loe Pool.
We were joined by a couple of new members to the group this month – family and friends are always welcome.

Camera Club January Outing

Camera Club had their first meeting of 2019 at Dynamite Quay and Porthkidney Sands. There was plenty to photograph on the beach and along the quayside. Then it was back to Helen’s for tea and cake. Next month’s meeting is a mobile phone photography workshop. There are a few spare places if any member would like to join us.

November Monthly Meeting

Elizabeth Harris was the speaker for the November Meeting. She kindly stepped in at the last minute when the advertised speaker was unable to attend. Elizabeth makes curtains and other window dressings, plus accessories just outside Penzance, and brought along a variety of beautiful fabrics and trimmings for members to look at. She explained how the fabric choice, style of window dressing, trims and headings all combine to make a statement to complement a property and it’s location.

A Weekend Just for You

Gail, Mary and Lisa joined WI members from all over Cornwall for ‘A Weekend Just for You’ at Treloyan Manor. They all chose the Photography option and spend a great couple of days learning about composition, taking photos and then editing their pictures. The photography teacher was David Chapman, who helped everyone get the most out of the weekend with his advice and tuition  Thanks to CFWI for organising the event. We look forward to another one in the not too distant future!

100 Years of Madron WI

Two members of Crowlas and Ludgvan WI were invited to join Madron WI for their Suffragette March. The march celebrated  combined Centenaries for both Madron WI and 100 Years since women were given the vote. Local schoolchildren and Mayor of Penzance Dick Cliffe joined in with the ladies, who were dressed in appropriate centenary outfits for the march which was followed by tea at the Landithy Hall in Madron.

October Walk

Another perfect day to enjoy a coastal walk around Coverack.  In the morning we walked along to Lowland Point & returned to Coverack to eat our picnic.  In the afternoon we walked through the lovely village of Coverack to the  Sculpture Garden.  The beautiful sculptures are by Terence Coventry. They are mainly birds and animals, and are displayed around several fields.  Well worth a visit.  We ended a a great day out having ice cream! (Shirley)

Watercolour Workshop

An enthusiastic group of members attended a Watercolour Workshop at The Murley Hall with local artist Nigel Haward. With Nigel’s tuition everyone painted a landscape picture of St Michael’s Mount and a still life of an autumnal wedding cake with fantastic results. Thank you to Val for organising another great experience.
