Camera Club April

After postponing their outing on Tuesday due to the bad weather, Camera Club went to Carn Euny near Sancreed for their April meeting. With the aim of using Aperture controls to get clear foreground detail combined with a blurred background there was plenty to photograph at the iron age settlement. Next month’s meeting is 1st May at Godolphin – please see Helen if you would like to join us to photograph the bluebells.

April Walk

We couldn’t have chosen a better day to walk up Godolphin Hill and then around the woods following the Hayle River.  There were obvious signs of spring at last – lambs and bluebells in bud.
The photograph is taken from the top of the hill – stopping to admire the panoramic views of countryside and Mounts Bay.  As usual we ended the walk with food which we were able to enjoy outside in the sunshine.  (Shirley)

March Monthly Meeting

March brought the Annual Meeting for Crowlas and Ludgvan WI. Members gathered at The Murley Hall to listen to the roundup of the past year, plus the financial report.  The membership currently stands at 62, with a full calendar of events, along with subgroups that include two walking groups, a Book Group, a camera club and craft group, plus one off workshops and outings: there really is something for everyone. Following a ballot, Alison Latham was elected President for 2018/19. Outgoing committee members Di Curnow and Kathy Merrett were thanked for their service and presented with flowers, and new members of the committee were welcomed. Cups were awarded to Sylvia Ronan for the most competition points accrued over the past year and to Julia Havard as ‘Most Inspiring Member’.  As Julia was unable to attend on the night, she sent a message thanking members and saying that she felt honoured to have received it.

Camera Club March Meeting

Camera Club went indoors for their March Meeting. They had a Portrait Session with Peter Puddiphatt at his studio in Sennen, learning how to set up their cameras and the studio lighting for best effect. It was a fun and informative afternoon. Next month (weather permitting) they are planning to go to Carn Euny Archaeological Site near Sancreed. See Helen if you would like to join them – any type of camera is fine, or you can use tablet or phone if that’s all you have.

Ringing, Singing and Having a Go

Crowlas and Ludgvan W I welcomed the Perran Rebells to the February Meeting. After a short history of handbell ringing and a demonstration of just how beautiful they can sound, it was time to hand out the bells to members. With a bit of help The Murley Hall was soon echoing with familiar tunes such as ‘Drunken Sailor’, ‘Daisy Bell’ and ‘Morning has Broken’. Many thanks to Vickie Ferguson and her team of ringers – we all had a great evening.

Board Games Fun

Despite the wind and rain there was a good turnout for the Ludgvan Lunch and Board Games afternoon. The soups were wholesome and warming and the cakes as delicious as you would expect from CLWI, and it wasn’t long before The Murley Hall was full of people mingling and enjoying the company of others as they played games and did jigsaws. Many thanks to all those who supported the event.

Walking Group – January 2018

A gentle start for our first walk of 2018 – only 3.5 miles, 1 hill and no muddy lanes to navigate!  The weather was kind too – mostly sunshine but very windy.
We set off along the lovely level King George V Walk in Hayle, up the hill to Phillack and onto the Towans.  Here we felt the full force of the wind but this was more than compensated for by the fantastic view of the coast from Godrevy Lighthouse to St Ives and further along St Uny Church, Lelant.  Eventually we arrived at the North Quay in Hayle and back to King George V  Walk .  As usual we finished the morning with food in the Riviere Cafe.

January Meeting

January traditionally brings the Feast Meeting for Crowlas and Ludgvan WI. With guests from neighbouring WIs and our advisor Liz Anderson the Murley Hall was packed for a delightful evening of food and friendship. The committee had worked hard to provide a fantastic selection of soups and gateaux, and the evening’s entertainment came from singer Stuart Gotch. With a repertoire including Volare, That’s Life, Spiderman and A Friend Like Me toes were soon tapping and ladies were singing along to their favourite tunes. A fun evening was had by all.

Camera Club

Camera Club met this week for the last time in 2017. They met in Mousehole as the sun was setting and had warming drinks in a cafe whilst waiting for the switch on, then made the most of the clear weather and took photos of the lights around the harbour.
