March Walk

Despite the thick fog & mizzle it did not deter the walking group from the planned 5 mile walk from Mawnan Church to the Ferry Boat Inn along the Helford River.  We enjoyed the views of Falmouth Bay, coast line & the wooded areas – very peaceful & beautiful.

Annual Meeting

The Murley Hall was full for the Crowlas and Ludgvan WI Annual Meeting. Secretary Jan Bone gave a rundown of the past year, reminding members of the full and varied programme of activities on offer. President Alison Latham thanked members for their participation and expressed just how valued each and every one of them is. Particular thanks went to the committee and all those who have organise events over the year. A Treasurer’s Report was provided to all. Following a ballot Alison was re-elected as president for the year ahead. Two cups were awarded, the Competitions Cup to Hilary Turner and the Most Inspiring Member jointly to Jenny Birchall and Sylvia Ronan. Wendie organised  a ‘getting to know you’ game for members to finish the evening off with a spot of fun.

All Aboard……

The Mexican Train! This new game has become a  firm favourite at the monthly Board Games afternoon. Based on a 12 spot set of dominoes it is easy to learn and can be played by complete beginners and more expert players alongside. Why not come along to the next event on Saturday 13th April 2-4 pm and give it a go?

Camera Club March

Camera Club went to the RSPB Reserve at Hayle for their March Meeting. Unfortunately the weather was rather wet and windy, but members enjoyed watching out for the birds and seeing signs of spring. Next month’s trip is to Trevaskis where hopefully baby animals will be the subject. New members are welcome. See Helen for details.

Coffee Beans

The Peppercorn Kitchen at Perranuthnoe was the venue for March’s Coffee Beans. A cheerful group of members met for coffee and a catch up. If you would like to come along to the next one see Hazel at the Monthly Meeting for details.

Amblers

Amblers picked a perfect early Spring day for their February walk. Tehidy Woods was looking delightful in the sunshine and provided a great location for a gentle stroll for Jane, Sandra, Kathy, Sylvia and Cynthia with their four legged companion Ruby.

Camera Club in February

Camera Club braved the chilly weather last Friday with some mobile phone photography. Newlyn Harbour and Mousehole were the locations, with a multitude of photo options. Tutor Becky and her assistant Karen helped everyone find the right settings and editing functions on their phones and gave useful tips for composition and planning. Everyone agreed that mobile phone cameras have so much more to offer than they thought!

2019 Feast

The Murley Hall came alive on Monday with over 50 ladies enjoying each other’s company, delicious food and great entertainment. The hall was laid out with linen bedecked tables, pretty early spring floral arrangements and menus, from which the committee served a fine selection of stews and casseroles to members and guests, followed by an array of delightful desserts, tea, coffee and mints.

With a tricky quiz of 2018, a left / right game that got everyone laughing and songs and tales of life on a cruise ship from Entertainer Stuart Gotch, the evening was filled with fun, food and friendship. The finale of a rousing rendition of Queen’s ‘We Will Rock You’ had members singing along, arms aloft. Many thanks to all those who put in so much effort to start 2019 in such style.

January Walk

Our monthly walk was around Loe Pool – a distance of  just over 7 miles.  A good healthy start for 2019!  The weather was dull but mainly dry – just one ill-timed shower which rather spoilt our picnic on the beach.   Most of the walk was through sheltered woodland until we crossed the exposed windy shingle bar which separates the sea from Loe Pool.
We were joined by a couple of new members to the group this month – family and friends are always welcome.
