June Walk

The weather was a little disappointing for our walk from Perranunthnoe.  In the mist we walked through fields, tracks and minor roads to Keneggy.  Once the coast was in sight the mist lifted a little and The Lizard came into view.  During the descent to join the coastal path, Rob spotted a couple of foxes in a clearing.
At Cudden Point with a wonderful view of Mount’s Bay we stopped for a picnic  and watched a bird of prey hovering close by.  The coastal path back was tortuous with plenty of ups & downs but full of colour from the wild flowers. (Mary)
The photograph was taken at Prussia Cove.

Royal Cornwall Show 2018

The WI Tea Tent was as popular as ever at this year’s Royal Cornwall Show. Teams of volunteers from around the County served tea, coffee and squash along with a selection of scones, cakes and biscuits to the hundreds of show visitors in need of a little refreshment, taking  a break in their busy day.  There was plenty of time between shifts to see all that the show had to offer – Wendie even managed to catch a moment with a Royal Visitor. Well done to everyone for their hard work and to those who entered the competitions.

Book Club May Meeting

Book Club met at Lisa’s this week to discuss the ‘Five Rivers met on a Wooded Plain’the first novel  by Barney Norris. The book, set in the Salisbury area, details how the lives of five unremarkable local people have been intertwined over a number of years in a multitude of minor incidents. With a high score averaging 8.2/10 it was enjoyed by everyone. Next month’s book is The Door by Magda Szabo.

Falmouth Trip with Camelford WI

Many thanks to Kathy for organising a memorable trip for our twinning with Camelford. We met at the Falmouth Pavillions and had coffee outside with the view of the beautiful bandstand and its flower beds which were being planted up as we watched. The head gardener gave us a short but very interesting history of the house and it’s gardens.  After a tour of the gardens with its shell grottos and an amazing variety of plants we walked down to the Maritime museum to see the Titanic Exhibition. We followed with lunch at Rick Stein’s and then a Roskilly ice cream in the Square.
All this with Falmouth sparkling in the hot sunshine. A perfect day. (Jane)

Camera Club May

Camera Club met at Godolphin this week for a guided tour of the bluebells.  This month’s aim was to achieve better composition, and members had studied some tutorials before the trip.

Despite the damp weather there was plenty to photograph in the gardens and grounds , and of course the cafe was a great place to dry off and have a chat afterwards.

Camera Club April

After postponing their outing on Tuesday due to the bad weather, Camera Club went to Carn Euny near Sancreed for their April meeting. With the aim of using Aperture controls to get clear foreground detail combined with a blurred background there was plenty to photograph at the iron age settlement. Next month’s meeting is 1st May at Godolphin – please see Helen if you would like to join us to photograph the bluebells.

April Walk

We couldn’t have chosen a better day to walk up Godolphin Hill and then around the woods following the Hayle River.  There were obvious signs of spring at last – lambs and bluebells in bud.
The photograph is taken from the top of the hill – stopping to admire the panoramic views of countryside and Mounts Bay.  As usual we ended the walk with food which we were able to enjoy outside in the sunshine.  (Shirley)

March Monthly Meeting

March brought the Annual Meeting for Crowlas and Ludgvan WI. Members gathered at The Murley Hall to listen to the roundup of the past year, plus the financial report.  The membership currently stands at 62, with a full calendar of events, along with subgroups that include two walking groups, a Book Group, a camera club and craft group, plus one off workshops and outings: there really is something for everyone. Following a ballot, Alison Latham was elected President for 2018/19. Outgoing committee members Di Curnow and Kathy Merrett were thanked for their service and presented with flowers, and new members of the committee were welcomed. Cups were awarded to Sylvia Ronan for the most competition points accrued over the past year and to Julia Havard as ‘Most Inspiring Member’.  As Julia was unable to attend on the night, she sent a message thanking members and saying that she felt honoured to have received it.

Camera Club March Meeting

Camera Club went indoors for their March Meeting. They had a Portrait Session with Peter Puddiphatt at his studio in Sennen, learning how to set up their cameras and the studio lighting for best effect. It was a fun and informative afternoon. Next month (weather permitting) they are planning to go to Carn Euny Archaeological Site near Sancreed. See Helen if you would like to join them – any type of camera is fine, or you can use tablet or phone if that’s all you have.
