The next meeting of the Crowlas & Ludgvan WI Camera Club will take place at 1:30pm on Friday 8th September at the Jubilee Pool in Penzance.

We are not professionals, just a group of women who like taking photos! We visit different venues and scenic spots every month to take pictures. We share ideas, suggestions and tips with each other and are a supportive, friendly and very informal little group. If this sounds like something you’re interested in, please join us!

Why not come along to Coffee Beans in the morning and then to Camera Club in the afternoon, and make a full WI day of it!

Our new walking group ‘Amblers’ is aimed at those who would like a stroll  and chat with friendly like-minded people, but may not have the stamina for one of Shirley’s walks. September’s Amble saw eight people and five dogs walk from Long Rock to the Godolphin where they met Pat and Liz who had walked from Perranuthnoe.  The glorious weather allowed for a cream tea in the sunshine before returning to Long Rock.

A great evening was had when members tried out Archery for a taster session hosted by The Lizard Bowmen. With one-to-one tuition from the friendly experts, everyone improved quickly and soon there were calls of ‘Gold End’ from along the line, signifying an archer has shot three arrows into the centre gold ring. After tea and biscuits the competitions began with chocolate prizes for winners. Many thanks to Val for organising .

With fantastic weather and great support from our members our fundraising stall in Causewayhead raised £155. Thank you to everyone who brought along items to sell; baked goods, craft items, plants and books and also to all those who helped out on the stall over the course of the day. Well done everyone!

Another great craft workshop from Val. Several members gathered last week to stencil and make a beautiful beach bag, made from start to finish in one day. Well done everyone!

With Shirley’s Monthly Walking Group already a popular regular event in our calendar, those less able to undertake a five mile ramble in the countryside have formed a group to get out and enjoy an amble at a slower pace. The first meeting took Jane, Kathy and Gail, plus Ruby the dog, along Penzance promenade with a visit to the new Zebra Crossing cafe. If you would like to join the Amblers on their next outing please get in touch with Jane or Kathy.

The Annual Book Club Summer Garden Party took place this week, with the wet weather preventing even a step into Colleen’s lovely garden. Nevertheless, with a scrumptious array of food and great company, a lovely afternoon was had by all. The book discussed was ‘The L-Shaped Room’ by Lynne Reid Banks and members pondered on the differences in society’s view of a single unmarried mother in 1960 and in modern times. Next month’s book club will be on Wednesday 26th July, at the usual time of 7.30pm when the book to talk about is ‘The Thread’ by Victoria Hislop.
